PLANETARY GEAR
by Ted Pearson

"Ted Pearson's beautiful work [of poetry], Planetary Gear, is prescient in its concern for the world. Opening with a line from William Carlos Williams' "The Descent," and written over a period when the world was said to have reason for optimism (December 1988-1990), this work expresses a darker(and as it turns out more realistic) tenderness. The world wasn't wasted during those years, but it is as it is now, and this poem is intensely immediate, with the world even in the context of maturing sadness. I hope many people will read and love this book."
